Masterclass at the Turin Conservatory
This masterclass, addressed to Master’s degree students in Composition, took place from January 13 to May 25, 2024 and explored compositional techniques and professional skills required to structure a personal creative path in the field of music for images. Instructor: Andrea Ravizza.
Throughout the academic year, the course addressed all the key areas necessary for developing a solid preparation as a contemporary composer:
- Music for images: aesthetics, film analysis, material characterization, and specific compositional techniques
- Composition: ideation and development of musical material
- Harmony: classical, modern, jazz, and modal harmony
- Orchestration: from small ensembles to modern orchestra
- Technology: virtual instruments, digital workstations, mixing, mastering, and spatialization
- Analysis: study of scores by major composers in classical and applied music
The course aimed to provide students with a comprehensive set of skills required to engage with today’s professional music production environment, while maintaining a strong cultural foundation that supports individual creative expression.
