Moncalieri Jazz Festival paid tribute with a special event to one of the greatest and most versatile figures of Italian entertainment: Renato Rascel. Born in Turin, Rascel developed a unique and eclectic performing style that earned him international recognition.
On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of his birth and the 70th anniversary of his first musical comedy with Garinei and Giovannini, “Attanasio cavallo vanesio”, as well as the film “Il cappotto”, which marked his worldwide cinematic acclaim, the artistic direction involved the entire RAI National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Steven Mercurio.
The orchestra was joined by a jazz house band and enriched by the extraordinary participation of Cesare Rascel and Giuditta Saltarini, along with special guests Carola Cora, Albert Hera, Ugo Viola, and the Children’s Choir of the Academia Montis Regalis School System, conducted by Corrado Margutti.
The concert-event, scheduled for Sunday 6 November at 6:00 p.m. at the prestigious Rai Auditorium “Arturo Toscanini” in Turin, was hosted by Umberto Broccoli.
The musical program, spanning Rascel’s most celebrated musical theatre works as well as evergreen popular songs that influenced generations of world-renowned performers, was specially arranged by Andrea Ravizza. The program also included a brand-new musical fantasy conceived as a heartfelt tribute to an artist whose genius, intuition and foresight often anticipated the languages of modern entertainment.
