On Wednesday, June 9, 2010, the magnificent setting of the Royal Castle of Moncalieri hosted the "Jazz Summer" series as part of the Moncalieri Jazz Festival. Following the extraordinary success of the winter edition, the "Cine & Jazz" project was reprised in a new summer format, confirming the solid partnership between the RAI National Symphony Orchestra and contemporary jazz.
Symphonic Crossover: Conducted by Carlo Boccadoro
On this occasion, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra was led by Maestro Carlo Boccadoro, a conductor and composer renowned for his profound sensitivity to boundary-pushing musical languages. Alongside him, world-class soloists Fabrizio Bosso (trumpet) and Francesco Cafiso (saxophone) once again brought cinematic scores to life, transforming the stage into a sonic ecosystem where jazz improvisation found a perfect balance with symphonic rigor.
The Program and Arrangements
The repertoire, entirely curated by Andrea Ravizza, revisited the great themes of cinema history. Through original arrangements, iconic melodies born for the silver screen were reinterpreted through a complex and layered orchestral lens. Ravizza's work allowed for a dynamic interaction between the orchestral mass and the virtuosic soloing of Bosso and Cafiso, celebrating the indissoluble bond between frames and notes that defines cinema as the "seventh art."
A Dialogue between Excellence
The event, hosted by Dario Salvatori, highlighted the Moncalieri Jazz Festival's ability to bring high-level cultural productions to fascinating historical locations. The synergy between the Jazz Summer series and the OSN Rai provided the audience with an immersive experience, where collective musical memory became a living, vibrant entity under the stars of the Royal Castle.
