Francesco Cafiso is one of the most authoritative and original voices in world jazz saxophone. His journey, which began at a very young age under the aegis of Wynton Marsalis, has evolved into a masterful career where technical virtuosity blends with profound aesthetic and narrative research.
From the Earthquake Lands: "10 Years!!!" in L'Aquila
One of the most significant moments of his collaboration with Andrea Ravizza is his participation in the special production "10 years!!! Italian Jazz for the Earthquake Areas", held in August 2024 on the San Bernardino Steps in L'Aquila. On this occasion, Cafiso was an exceptional soloist for a work composed and conducted by Ravizza, which saw the prestigious I Solisti Aquilani interact with a big band and other internationally renowned soloists. The performance testified to how Francesco’s sound can carry a civil narrative, transforming music into a gesture of solidarity and rebirth for the communities affected by the earthquake.
The Symphonic Partnership: Cine & Jazz
The artistic relationship between Cafiso and Ravizza has deep roots, consolidated in the historic productions realized with the RAI National Symphony Orchestra. In the Cine & Jazz events (2009 and 2010), Cafiso interpreted great cinematic themes through Ravizza’s symphonic arrangements, collaborating with conductors like Giancarlo Gazzani and Carlo Boccadoro. In these contexts, his alto sax was the lead actor in an intense dialogue between the orchestral mass and the urgency of improvisation.
The Performer as a Creative Prism
In Ravizza's poetics, Francesco Cafiso embodies the "active character" par excellence: a soloist capable of refracting the rigor of the written score through an ever-new emotional prism. From the solemn atmospheres of L'Aquila to the cinematic crossover at the RAI Auditorium, Cafiso brings a communicative force to every project that transcends genre, making every collaboration a unique and unrepeatable event.
