On September 5, 2025, the Auditorium dei Battuti Bianchi in Fossano hosted the official debut of Heavy Brass - Remember Jimmi's. This project, born from an idea by Gianfranco Marchesi, brought back the legendary atmosphere of Milan's Jimmi's Club, transforming the power of heavy brass into an explosion of pure soul, blues, and groove energy.
A Sonic Laboratory: Between Memory and Innovation
The ensemble, composed exclusively of heavy brass and drums, presented an unprecedented sonic guise for musicians belonging to the prestigious RAI National Symphony Orchestra. Thanks to the arrangements curated by Andrea Ravizza (alongside Devid Ceste and Christopher Bill), iconic themes by Stevie Wonder, the Blues Brothers, Chicago, and Blood Sweat & Tears were transfigured into powerful and overwhelming symphonic architectures, breaking down the boundaries between classical tradition and pop-soul groove.
In Memory of Joe Burnam
The evening took on a special depth in the moving tribute to Joe Burnam, Lead Trombone of the OSN RAI, who passed away just months before the debut. Heavy Brass and the Fondazione Fossano Musica dedicated this absolute premiere to him, honoring the memory of a colleague and friend who was fundamental to the creation of international trombone culture in this region.
The Performers
An elite lineup brought this official baptism to life: Diego Di Mario, Alessandro Pogliani, Antonello Mazzucco, and Devid Ceste on tenor trombones; Gianfranco Marchesi on bass trombone; Matteo Magli on tuba; and Biagio Zoli on drums. The event confirmed Fossano as a true capital of brass, capable of hosting experiments that make timbral transparency and rhythmic force their trademark.
