On Friday, July 29, 2011, the stunning Romanesque setting of the Church of San Nazario in Montechiaro d’Asti hosted the "Baroque Fantasies" concert. The evening featured the Viotti Ensemble, a prestigious group made up of principal players from the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, presenting a program centered on the dialogue between the 18th-century repertoire and contemporary reworkings by Andrea Ravizza.
Baroque as a Universal Language
In this event, the crossover project between Bach and the Beatles took a significant step forward. Alongside masterpieces by Handel, Telemann, and Neruda, the ensemble performed the world premiere of Concertos No. 3 and No. 5 curated by Ravizza. Here, the famous themes of the Fab Four (from Help! to Yesterday and Yellow Submarine) were not merely transcribed but reconstructed as original Baroque scores, using counterpoint to create a dialogue between the oboe, trumpet, and the string texture.
Excellence on Stage
The performance featured world-class musicians: Franco Tangari (oboe) and Ercole Ceretta (trumpet) as soloists, supported by a string quintet consisting of Giuseppe Lercara and Giuseppe Pinturo (violins), Alberto Giolo (viola), Giacomo Berutti (cello), and Giorgio Curtoni (double bass). The synergy among the RAI soloists highlighted the architectural nobility of Ravizza's "re-elaborations," finding the ideal resonance in the ancient acoustics of San Nazario.
Event supported by the Municipality of Montechiaro d'Asti as part of the "Musica nelle Pievi" festival.
