On Saturday, November 18, 2017, the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Roletto (TO) hosted the final chapter of the series of sonic experiments in TV themes curated by Andrea Ravizza: "Sonic Images on TV". The event featured the seasoned RAI National Symphony Orchestra Principal Players Quartet.
From the Screen to the Chamber Score
The project aimed to revisit famous melodies created for the small screen — TV themes, interludes, and jingles — by extracting them from their original context. Ravizza performed a refined work of arrangement and (re)composition, transforming sonic fragments embedded in collective memory (from Paradisi's famous Toccata, known as the "RAI Interval," to themes from great television dramas) into pure instrumental writing. Detached from the image, these themes reveal an evocative power and structural nobility that the string quartet enhanced with elegance and technical expertise.
The Excellence of the RAI Quartet
The RAI soloists — Alessandro Milani (violin), Ula Ulijona (viola), Massimo Macrì (cello), and Gabriele Carpani (double bass) — interpreted these sonic metamorphoses with their customary sensitivity. The synergy between the group and Andrea Ravizza ideally closed a circle begun years earlier, confirming how cultivated grammar can dialogue with any form of popular expression, ennobling it in a new artistic dimension.
