On Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the Waldensian Temple in Prarostino (TO), Andrea Ravizza presented a new chapter of his sonic investigation: "Beatles and West Coast: A Possible Encounter". The evening featured the prestigious RAI National Symphony Orchestra Principal Players Quartet.

The Dualism Between London and California

The project stems from the idea of investigating the dualism between the musical dominance of the Beatles and the American rock movement of the 1970s, known as West Coast. Ravizza did not limit himself to a simple restatement of themes but engaged in a careful process of (re)composition. The melodies were adapted to the executive technique of the strings, seeking to trace common lines between the melodic refinement from across the Channel and the bright, open sounds of the Californian tradition.

The Performer as an Extension of the Composer

The performance was entrusted to four exceptional soloists from the RAI Orchestra: Alessandro Milani (violin), Ula Ulijona (viola), Massimo Macrì (cello), and Gabriele Carpani (double bass). Their ability to release the infinite expressive possibilities of string instruments allowed the pop-rock material to be ennobled, transforming it into high-profile chamber writing that keeps the evocative power of the original themes intact.
