On September 3, 2014, the RAI "A. Toscanini" Auditorium in Turin hosted an extraordinary event to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Italian public broadcasting. In an evening filled with nostalgia and innovation, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra performed "RAI's Historical TV Themes," a symphonic reimagining project curated by Andrea Ravizza and initiated by Superintendent Michele Dall'Ongaro.

Symphony and Improvisation

The event featured world-renowned jazz pianist Danilo Rea, whose lyrical and improvisational style engaged in a dialogue with the power of the full orchestra conducted by Pietro Mianiti. Ravizza's work transformed legendary sonic fragments — from the William Tell theme to Paradisi's Toccata — into expansive musical architectures. The concert was not merely a parade of hits, but a "Symphonic Fantasy" where themes from variety shows, major dramas, and news broadcasts were woven into a continuous narrative flow.

A Media Success

Introduced by Michele Dall’Ongaro and attended by a wide audience, the concert demonstrated how TV themes have become part of the Italian cultural DNA. The event was later broadcast on Rai5 and Radio3, cementing the success of a project that ennobled "functional" television repertoire by bringing it into the concert hall.
