On Sunday, June 18, 2017, the evocative Paolina Chapel of the Quirinal Palace in Rome hosted the closing event of "The Quirinale Concerts on Radio3" season. For this occasion, the RAI Historical TV Themes project was presented in a new chamber version, performed by the soloists of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra Jazz Ensemble conducted by Pietro Mianiti.
From Full Orchestra to Ensemble
The challenge for Andrea Ravizza was to distill the power of a full orchestra into an eleven-piece ensemble while keeping the tonal and narrative richness of the original project intact. In this version, as the duet with jazz piano was no longer featured, Ravizza expanded the body of work from five to seven thematic medleys. The themes were regrouped into new architectures: from the Start of Broadcasting to major dramas, variety shows, historic programs, and a short segment dedicated to cinema.
A Concert for the Nation
The event, broadcast live nationwide on Radio3 Suite, featured the RAI principal players, who skillfully alternated between classical rigor and jazz inflections. From Sandokan to Carosello, each piece was received as a fragment of national history, confirming the project's ability to engage the audience through memory and executive excellence.
